The short stories in Sightings have been inspired by my many years of experience both as a social worker and keen observer of life and its vagaries. Some of the tales are fundamentally drawn from real-life events, others evolved from incidents that have been described to me. All of them come from experiences that have challenged me to think further about how things get to be as they are.
Some of the stories are awkward and uncomfortable in many ways, but also honour the struggles we all have as we move through our lives. A number of the stories have won awards. The collection includes earlier writings alongside recent ones, such as The Fox and Globe-Trotting, which I worked on during 2017-18 between periods of ill-health.
I do hope you enjoy the collection.
